Born: Montreal, Canada

Born in 1982 in Montreal (Canada), Lou Paquin started her bassoon studies with Prof. Stéphane Lévesque in her hometown, at McGill University. After completing a Bachelor of Music in Performance in June 2005, she left for Germany to continue her studies (Diplom - Künstlerische Ausbildung) with Prof. Eckart Hübner at the Berlin University of the Arts (Universität der Künste Berlin). She graduated in February 2008 and got accepted to the postgraduate level (Aufbaustudium - Konzertexamen). She changed school in October 2010 and now studies for a Master of Music with Prof. Karsten Nagel at the Leopold-Mozart-Zentrum in Augsburg.

She won many competitions: among others, the McGill University Classical Concerto Competition, the Trois-Rivières Symphony Orchestra Competition and the Meg Quigley Vivaldi Competition.

Lou Paquin attended a large number of masterclasses with such renowned performers as Christopher Millard, John Clauser, Klaus Thunemann, and Dag Jensen. In 2005, she was a member of the Orchestra of the Bachakademie Festival in Stuttgart and in 2006 and 2008 of the Orchestra Academy of the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival. She took part in the chamber music week (Woche der Begegnung) of the Schwetzinger Festival in June 2008. From April 2009 to July 2012, she played as Assistant Principal Bassoon on a contract with the Augsburg Philharmonic Orchestra. She also played with several professional orchestras, both in Canada and Germany. Next season, she will be on trial at the Jönköpings Sinfonietta (Sweden) for a permanent position as Principal Bassoon.
